Is it safe to refill my pool during Austin Stage 2 water restrictions?
“Water is the lifeblood of your pool, but in Austin, it’s a regulated resource.”
As of my last check, most of Austin and the surrounding areas (including Leander) are under some form of water restriction. Understanding these rules is vital to avoid heavy fines.
The General Rules:
- Topping Off: Most Stage 2 rules allow for “topping off” a pool to maintain proper water levels for the equipment to function. However, you must only do this on your designated watering days and times.
- Draining and Refilling: This is usually prohibited without a special permit during Stage 2 or higher. If you need to resurface or fix a major leak, you must coordinate with the city.
- Automatic Fillers: Check that your auto-fill is working correctly. A stuck auto-fill can waste thousands of gallons and lead to a massive water bill.
Austin Detail: Leander and Cedar Park often have slightly different schedules than Austin proper. Always check your specific municipal website.
