Best Pool Cleaners for Catching Live Oak Leaves and Acorns

“If you have a Live Oak, your pool cleaner isn’t just a luxury—it’s a full-time employee.”

In Austin, Live Oaks are beautiful, but they are “dirty” trees. Between the spring pollen, the summer leaf drop, and the fall acorns, your pool floor can quickly become a graveyard of organic debris.

The Problem with Suction Cleaners

Most builders install basic suction-side cleaners (the ones that plug into your wall). In Austin, these often fail because acorns and thick Live Oak leaves easily clog the small intake throat.

Expert Recommendations:

  1. Robotic Cleaners: These are the gold standard for Austin. They have their own internal filter bags and large intakes that can handle acorns without blinking.
  2. Pressure-Side Cleaners (with bags): If you have a dedicated booster pump, a pressure-side cleaner is great because it catches the debris in a bag rather than sending it to your filter.
  3. Large-Throat Suction Cleaners: If you must go suction, look for models designed for “high-debris” environments.

Austin Detail: Acorns contain tannins that can stain your plaster “Texas Tan” if left to sit for too long. A good cleaner prevents these stains before they start.
